Biography:

Dr. Mary Frances Casper teaches Public Relations and Public Relations support courses that explore the social impact, historical, ethical and theoretical contexts of mass media and Public Relations. Casper seeks to merge theory and application in her classes which have included Contemporary Public Communication, Public Relations and Agenda Setting, Information Technology and Mass Media, Business and Professional Speaking, Principles of Public Relations, Principles of Design for Print, Business and Professional Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Introduction to Public Speaking.
"My research focuses on media representations of identity and the influence of these representations on normalized perceptions of how life should be. I’m interested in the conflict between verbal and visual media depictions of identity and individual self-perception and roles, particularly of groups that are often marginalized in society and muted in the media, such as women and minorities."
Casper has authored and co-authored multiple conference papers and publications. She has presented her work at local, regional, and national conferences both individually and collaboratively and has published in Health Communication, Feminist Media Studies, Journal of the Speech Communication Association of Puerto Rico, and Advertising in Developing Countries. Casper is a member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and the National Communication Association (NCA).
