Boise State University announces the availability of two forensics scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year exclusively for outstanding Idaho students who are new to Boise State. Scholarship amounts vary, but provide between one-quarter to three-quarters of the recipients’ resident tuition and fees for the Fall and Spring semesters. Recipients will compete with the Boise State Intercollegiate Speech and Debate Team and are eligible to receive increasing scholarship assistance each semester. Selection will be based on academic promise, as well as demonstrated and potential excellence in forensics. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Idaho residency and admission to Boise State University.
  • At least two semesters of high school or community college forensics experience. Rhetorically-oriented debate and/or broad individual events experience preferred.
  • A minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.25 on a four-point scale; Or an ACT composite score of 25 or SAT combined score of 1150 or higher.
  • Exceptions: Students not fully meeting the minimum requirements should attach an explanation of circumstances to their application.
  • APPLICATION PROCEDURE - To apply, send the following materials:

  • A letter of application indicating why you wish to attend Boise State, and why you wish to compete in forensics at the college level.
  • A detailed summary of your high school and/or community college forensics experience (in either narrative or resume format), indicating tournaments and events entered and awards won.
  • A letter of recommendation from your forensics coach(es) indicating your strengths and weaknesses, and your potential for continued academic and forensic success in college.
  • Applicants are encouraged to send additional supporting materials for consideration by the selection committee (e.g., additional letters of recommendation, copies of scores from ACT or SAT examinations, a video tape of the student’s performances, copies of transcripts, etc.).     APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 7, 2008
  • THE BAIRD-POTTER FORENSIC EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

    The Boise State University Foundation and the Boise State Forensics Program invite applicants for the Virginia Baird and Clyde Potter Forensics Education Awards. These endowed Foundation Scholarships are granted to Boise State students competing in intercollegiate debate and/or speech and majoring in a secondary education program. The awards were created to assist students who are preparing for secondary teaching, especially those who may be considering careers as speech communication and/or debate educators. The precise amount of the awards will be announced in April. The recipients of the Baird & Potter Awards are also eligible for regular Boise State Forensics Scholarship awards.

    ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants should complete the Boise State Scholarship Application Form for 2007-08.
  • Recipients must be current members of the Boise State Intercollegiate Speech and Debate Team, or should secure the permission of the Boise State Director of Forensics to compete with the team during the Spring 2007 semester
  • A minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 on a four-point scale is required.
  • Applicants must be full-time Boise State students majoring in a secondary education program during the Spring 2008 semester.
  • APPLICATION PROCEDURE - To apply, forward the following:

  • A letter of application briefly detailing: 1) The applicant’s professional aspirations, and 2) His/her plans for preparing for a career in secondary education.
  • A letter of recommendation from an educator well acquainted with the applicant’s past academic record, and potential as a classroom professional.
  • Applicants are invited to send additional supporting material which might establish their academic qualifications or interest in pursuing a career in education.
